A NEW OCCUPIER has been found for the former Johnson & Johnson plant in Cashel, bringing up to 300 new jobs to Tipperary.
Amneal Pharmaceuticals bought the 200,000-square-foot facility with plans to manufacture inhalers and other generic, specialty medicines.
When the factory is fully operational, the company said it will require between 250 and 300 staff.
The Johnson & Johnson building lay vacant for about four years before it was acquired by Singapore-based investment firm Solidus earlier this year.
Amneal then worked with IDA Ireland to purchase it from the new owners.
Jobs Minister Richard Bruton noted that the region has been blighted by unemployment but claimed that in the past three years the South East “has seen the fastest rate of jobs growth in the country”.
IDA chief Martin Shanahan echoed the sentiment, noting that regional development is a “core part” of the agency’s strategy.
“That Amneal has chosen to locate in a facility that had been occupied previously is especially pleasing and is a credit to the IDA executives who are advertising ready-to-go sites just like this in boardrooms across the world on a daily basis,” he said in a statement this morning.
Local politicians Minister Alan Kelly and junior minister Tom Hayes also welcomed the development in their county, praising the town, its workforce and infrastructure.
